Monozukuri (Manufacturing) School

Since 2008, the Monozukuri (manufacturing) School has been held every year to convey the joy of “monozukuri” to the next generation, who are the builders of the future. At the School, skills such as how to make an AM radio are taught to children by employees. In FY2022, the program was also postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic; nevertheless, there are plans to hold the program in the future while keeping a close watch on how the virus spreads.

Support for the Drop-in Center Project in Bangladesh

Tamura Corporation has been supporting the Drop-in Center Project for street children in Dhaka, Bangladesh, since 2017, through the nonprofit organization KnK International Children without Borders. The Center has been established to support children who are forced to survive on the street because of family problems such as poverty and abuse, and provides meals, educational activities, and awareness-raising activities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the children have been forced to face an even harsher situation; nevertheless, the Center continues to provide meals while paying close attention to the spread of the virus. The Company has an affiliated company in Bangladesh and has been engaged in the production of LEDs for automatic vending machines and other products since 1997. We will continue to support such children as a local company.

Participation in Akaya Project* Activities

Tamura Corporation, as a corporate member of the Nature Conservation Society of Japan (NACS-J), has been supporting the “Akaya Project,” which focuses on biodiversity restoration, by offering the use of the Company’s resort house and training facility located at the foot of the “Akaya Forest” where the project’s activities are carried out.
In 2018, we started the "Akaya Reforestation" volunteer activity, which aims to restore a man-made forest to a natural forest. A large number of employee volunteers participated in the project in FY2022 carrying out improvement, cutting and planting trees. We will continue this volunteer activity as an annual event and observe the progress and change of the forest through our efforts.

*Akaya Project: Efforts to promote biodiversity restoration and a sustainable regional community through the joint cooperation of three core organizations, namely, “Akaya Project Regional Council” consisting of the region’s residents, the MAFF (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) Kanto Regional Forest Office, and the Nature Conservation Society of Japan. This project takes place in the Akaya Forest, a national forest that measures approx. 10 thousand hectares (10km x 10km), extending from the northern area of Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture to the prefectural border with Niigata Prefecture.

Internship and Job Experience Programs

The Tamura Group believes that passing down the great value of “monozukuri(manufacturing)” to future generations is one of the “corporate social responsibilities (CSR).” On the basis of this belief, we have been promoting activities that enable participants to actually feel “what is to work” by offering opportunities of field experience of monozukuri and friendly interactions with employees. Under its internship and job experience programs, it receives junior and senior high school and university students as well as foreign students studying in Japan to its business sites, including overseas subsidiaries. In these programs, it also receives school teachers to provide opportunities of learning human resource development and customer service systems at businesses and using such experience for future school administration and class improvement. Although the programs were postponed in FY2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic; we will continue to hold the programs while closely monitoring pandemic conditions.

Recycling Initiatives by Collecting Empty Disposable Contact Lens Cases

Tamura joined in the “Eyecity Eco Project” (disposable contact lens case collection and recycling initiatives promoted by Hoya Corporation) and started activities in July 2018. The recovery of collected and recycled empty disposable contact lens cases as resources has contributed to CO2 reduction and proceeds from the sale of empty cases have been donated to Japan Eye Bank Association. Collection boxes for empty cases were installed in every factory and group company in Japan and a total of approx.80 kg of cases were collected by the end of March 2023.

Supporting UNICEF by Collecting Foreign Coins
