Purchasing policy
The Tamura Group Procurement Guidelines, which were established in March 2007, state, “As a company operating around the globe, we shall maintain a global perspective in our procurement of materials, working in the pursuit of profit creation together with companies that can demonstrate an understanding of the Tamura Group Vision and are able to participate in an ongoing partnership.” The Guidelines also indicate the Group's seven fundamental purchasing principles covering quality, the environment, and uniqueness as follows:

 Tamura Group Fundamental Purchasing Principles

  • (1) With regard to quality, the Tamura Group will trade with corporations that have a keen awareness of “putting quality first”, understand the Tamura Group's quality control principles, and have established quality management procedures.
  • (2) With regard to the environment, the Tamura Group will trade with corporations that are fully aware of worldwide trends in environment preservation, abide by the Tamura Group Green Procurement Standards and take the lead in initiatives that consider the environment.
  • (3) The Tamura Group will trade with corporations that constantly make proactive improvements and reforms in accordance with market demand.
  • (4) The Tamura Group will trade with specialized manufacturers that have a uniqueness not found in other corporations.
  • (5) The Tamura Group will promote the simplification of trade routes.

Promotion of CSR-based procurement
In order to meet the growing interest of stakeholders in the entire business processes from manufacturing to sales of products, the Tamura Group indicated basic purchasing policies in its Procurement Guidelines as mentioned above with the aim of advancing its CSR initiatives in the entire supply chain. Promoting green procurement
In order to deliver environment-friendly and safe products to customers, the Tamura Group established its Green Procurement Standards in 2002. The Company has been promoting the procurement of parts and materials with less substances of concern from suppliers who actively engage in environmental protection activities. Furthermore, we are asking them to design environmental management systems, chemical substance control systems based on JIS Z 7201 and other guidelines, and systems that guarantee chemical substances contained in products, as well as to conduct research on environmentally controlled substances specified by the Tamura Group. Our Initiatives for Issues Related to Conflict Minerals
It has been a matter of concern that mineral resources mined in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and its adjacent countries are serving as financial resources for armed groups that have been committing human rights abuse, environmental destruction, etc. Focusing on four specific raw materials (tin, gold, tantalum, and tungsten) that are defined as conflict minerals, the U.S. Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act requires that publicly traded companies in the U.S. check and report if such materials are serving as financial resources for armed groups in this region.

As our solder paste uses solder containing tin as a major component, Tamura considers this conflict minerals issue an important agenda, has drawn up a policy that we neither purchase nor use conflict minerals that serve as financial resources for armed groups in these regions, and has been enforcing this policy in our supply chain in cooperation with our business partners.

Company’s major efforts
- The Tamura Group states in “Tamura Group Code of Conduct” and “Tamura Group Procurement Guidelines” that with promoting non-use of conflict minerals as our objective, we will not purchase any raw materials produced by labor that violates basic human rights such as inhuman treatment. For this purpose, Tamura asks our business partners for their understanding and includes the non-use of conflict minerals in basic contracts, etc. that are concluded.
- In cooperation with business partners and secondary/tertiary suppliers, we carry out an investigation on the status of use of conflict minerals to check whether or not conflict minerals that can serve as financial resources for armed groups are contained in the raw materials, etc. of the Company’s products.

Our Initiatives for Issues Stipulated in the UK Modern Slavery Act
In accordance with the provisions of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, Tamura-Europe Limited, a Tamura Group company in the UK, has publicly released a statement on slavery and human trafficking.

Online Whistleblowing and Complaint Form for Whistleblowing and Consultation by Business Partners
To encourage business partners to notify the Tamura Group if someone who is associated with the Group commits or is suspected to have committed a compliance violation so that a legal violation can be detected and rectified early on, the Group created an online whistleblowing and complaint form for whistleblowing and consultation by business partners on its website in October 2020, and notified main business partners of it. The reception desk will be operated in Japan as the initial step, and be expanded to overseas bases step by step.
The Group has an internal whistleblowing system targeting executives and employees in place; it will step up business operations based on a compliance culture further through the creation and operation of the new form.
